Why adopt?

To quote another bloger/adoptive mother:
1. Every 5 seconds a child dies from a preventable disease/starvation in Africa.
2. Globally each day 30,000 children dies from prevenatable disease, food born illness, and starvation. This is equal to 100 jumbo jets full of children crashing.
3. There are 6 million suffering from malnutrition in Ethiopia.
4. In the next month 120,000 children under the age of 5 will perish because of starvation in Ethiopia.
5. Six of the nine regions in Ethiopia are experiencing a drought that has dramatically effected food production.

Once our eyes are open we cannot pretend we do not know what to do. God, who weighs our hearts and keeps our souls knows we know and holds us responsible to act.
Proverbs 24.12

I saw your comment today over at Kirby's and I am starting to read your blog. I hope you don't mind my comments. Let me know if you do :D

Adoption is one of the things that I struggle with. I don't know why I do. My grandfather was adopted. My wife would love to adopt but there is something about it that I don't like. I know that is not charitable to help those that I can and not Christ like either. Hopefully one day I will lose my stiff neckedness and hard heart and be willing to adopt.

Lucky: Not everyone is called to adopt. Some are called to witness, some are called to pray, some are called to give, and some are called to adoption. It is appropriate that both you and your wife be called to adopt. There is nothing wrong with not feeling that call...it must mean that God has other plans. May I ask what it is you don't like about it?
No, I don't mind your comments either. It is always interesting to me to hear other's opinions. God's blessings to you!

Maggie,

First, I ask that you forgive my spelling and grammer errors.

My wife wants to adopt because she is possesed of the pure love of Christ Jesus which embodies charity and the desire to help those who are less fortunate. For me Charaity is a trial. In a recent Sunday school class we were talking about chariaty and helping those who are less fortunate.

After seriously pondering and praying about my lack of Chariaty I realized one of the reasons for this.

I have a really hard time helping out people who aren't doing anything to help themselves. This is diffrent then if I a begger knocks on my door begging for food and shelter and if I don't help him he will die that night. I have no problem helping him its helping those who don't seem to be helping themselves.

However this really doesn't apply to adopting a child or baby.

Honestly what I don't like about adoption is rather silly. I don't like the idea of raising a child who is not my own or my wifes. It is a very selfish thing I need to overcome. But its hard for me to reason why I need to raise someone elses child.

The only exception to this would be if my wife and I were not able to have children I would be much more likly to adopt so that we could have kids.

God Speed Maggie !
